UConn Huskies Hockey Achieves Dramatic Victory Over UMass
The UConn men's hockey team pulled off an impressive 3-2 comeback against No. 8 UMass, securing a place in the Hockey East tournament. The Huskies clinched the win with two late goals in front of a raucous home crowd. Head coach Mike Cavanaugh praised the atmosphere, noting it felt even larger than the reported attendance of 6,700. UConn struggled to score for most of the game, firing 38 shots at UMass goaltender Filip Lindberg. However, with just over a minute left, Marc Gatcomb tied the game, and Kale Howarth scored the winning goal with only eight seconds remaining. Despite it being Senior Night, it was the younger players, particularly the line of Gatcomb, Howarth, Jachym Kondelik, and Carter Berger, who led the way offensively. UConn's defense was also commendable, limiting UMass to just 36 shots, while Tomas Vomacka made crucial saves. This victory positions UConn well in the Hockey East standings as they prepare for their next match against UMass in Amherst.
